Conflict can be the engine of rejuvenation and creating better versions of ourselves.

Value of confrontation

Do not allow a suppressed conflict to build resentment in you towards other contributors. Prefer a direct and sincere confrontation if you’re not okay with something. Here are some guidelines to keep it productive:

• Focus on discussing specific behaviours, and steer clear of talking about someone’s personal qualities.
• Assume good will - we joined to work together for a reason and all of us want to reach the best outcome possible.
• Do not try to convert the other person to your point of view. Instead, work together with them to figure out what’s best. That is, go in with the assumption that you might be wrong (or even both of you).
• It’s okay if you don’t reach a perfect agreement. The goal is to reach a conclusion that’s Good Enough™ for everyone involved. Sometimes this will mean putting trust into another person’s judgement, even if you don’t agree with them.
